The HESPERUS Cultural Foundation has been set up in 1991.
Engineer I. C. Florea (one of the Romanian Radio pioneers) was among the founder members as well as the famous Romanian Director Nicolae Corjos, The Romanian Radiotelevision Editors Ioan Ion Diaconu, Maria Urbanovici, Ioan Iacob so on.

Prof. Dr. Ioan Iacob has had the initiative of this cultural foundation and a famous Romanian actor, Adrian Pintea, has offered a recital of Mihai Eminescu at the end of the first The HESPERUS Cultural foundation general assembly (at STUDIO Hall of The ‘C.I.Nottara’ Theatre, on the 29th of May, 1991).

The HESPERUS Cultural Foundation has organized ten editions of ‘THE HESPERUS Days’ (cultural events with international guests, in 1993, 1995, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2014).

The Ambassadors of Brazil, India, Portugal (1999), Japan, Brazil and The General Consul of Australia (2001), Finland, Bulgaria, The Republic of Korea (2003), The Czech Republic (2007), special guests from Italy (1993), Switzerland (1995), Spain, The British Council (2003), U.K., Egypt, Italy (2005), Germany, The U.S.A. (2007), Canada (2009), The U.S.A. (2011) have participated at these international cultural events.

The HESPERUS Cultural Foundation is about to launch A TRANSATLANTIC PROJECT dedicated to POETRY (literature, culture), MEDIA and THEATRE. This project is based on’Transatlantic Poetry Arc: Mihai Eminescu – Edgar Allan Poe’ (the doctoral dissertation of Prof. Dr. Ioan Iacob, writer and journalist, President of The HESPERUS Cultural Foundation), published by JUNIMEA Publishing House and launched at GAUDEAMUS Book Fair in November, 2017.

Profesorul dr. Ioan Iacob propune o lucrare inedită, menită să pună în valoare arcul poetic transatlantic dintre Eminescu și Poe, o metaforă complexă, folosită pentru a reliefa majoritatea similitudinilor și diferențierilor dintre acești doi mari poeți ai lumii: “Arc poetic transatlantic: Mihai Eminescu – Edgar Allan Poe”. Profesorul ne invită de fapt să descifrăm “posibilele implicații ale unui experiment: intersectarea unui arc poetic transoceanic ce ne-a permis relaționarea a două mari nume ale liricii universale, Eminescu și Poe, cu o axă gotică imaginară, față de care ambii poeți se raportează prin universurile lor lirice”. Many and many a year ago, I have met a fantastic person and personality: ADRIAN G. SAHLEAN (U.S.A.). Some time before to meet him I have read a book written by his father (VICTOR SAHLEAN) and I have been impressed by that book. I have never imagined I would have the chance to meet his son, one of the EMINESCU’s famous translators.

Because many people would like to read what I say about ‘The Transatlantic Project EMINESCU – POE’ as a whole story, I have to write once again THE WHOLE STORY without pictures… I’ll add pictures AFTER the story… The Transatlantic Project EMINESCU – POE History (1).

I have met Adrian in front of a company (before to go to see my new job). It has been raining and Adrian has come having with him a sport bag (at that time I haven’t had any idea that he has been a good tennis player). We have spoken about poetry, Eminescu, the old Bucharest (called ‘The Little Paris’ before 1944 ) and we have decided to pay a visit to a great personality: Doctor / Writer/ Professor C.D. Zeletin.

Professor C.D.Zeletin had a famous uncle: George Emil Palade (George Emil Palade (November 19, 1912 – October 8, 2008) was a Romanian cell biologist. He is best known for the innovations in electron microscopy and cell fractionation which helped lay the foundations of modern molecular cell biology. Palade was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1974. He won the award “for their discoveries concerning the structural and functional organization of the cell”. He shared it with Albert Claude and Christian de Duve. Palade was described as “the most influential cell biologist ever”.

Traducerea în limba română: Proiectul transatlantic EMINESCU – POE (1)

Cu mulți ani în urmă, am întâlnit o persoană și o personalitate fantastică: ADRIAN G. SAHLEAN (S.U.A). Cu ceva timp înainte de a-l întâlni am citit o carte scrisă de tatăl său (VICTOR SĂHLEAN) și am fost impresinat de acea carte. Nu mi-am imaginat niciodată că voi avea șansa să-l întâlnesc pe fiul său, unul dintre celebri traducători ai lui EMINESCU.

Proiectul transatlantic EMINESCU – POE (2)

L-am întâlnit pe Adrian în fața unei companii (înainte de a merge să îmi văd noul ooc de muncă). Ploua și Adrian venise având cu el o geanta de sport (la vremea aceea nu aveam idee ca el a fost un bun jucator de tenis). Am vorbit despre poezie, despre Eminescu, despre vechiul București (numit înainte de 1944 „micul Paris”) și am decis să facem o vizită unei mari personalități: doctorul / scriitorul / Profesorul C.D. Zeletin.

Profesorul C. D. Zeletin avea un unchi celebru: George Emil Palade (n. 19 noiembrie, 1912 – d. 8 octombrie, 2008) a fost un specialist în domeniul biologiei celulare. El este cel mai bine cunoscut pentru inovațiile în microscopia electronică și fracționarea celulelor care au ajutat la fundamentarea biologiei celulare moleculare moderne.

Palade a primit Premiul Nobel pentru Fiziologie sau Medicină în 1974. El a câștigat premiul “pentru descoperirile privind organizarea structurală și funcțională a celulei”. A împărțit Premiul Nober cu Albert Claude și Christian de Duve. Palade a fost descris ca fiind “cel mai influent biolog celular”. (VA URMA / WIL FOLLOW).
